Crustaceans are creatures that do not have an endoskeleton like most animals have, but they have an exoskeleton. There are more than 6,700 types of crabs in the world. Fashion Friday: Seeing RED

July 22, 2011 1:42:23 PM EDT

In the heat of summer, it's hard to believe that fall is just around the corner (especially these last few days). Following the lead from summer colors, fall is all about bright vibrate colors. The hues are definitely becoming more and more intense with deep saturation. One color in particular that is leading the color trend is RED.

This classic color is gracing the runways of many designers this season. Outerwear, dresses, shoes, handbags, sweater and coats are all coming up red. There is even a lot of head-to-toe red. All red hues are the driving this trend and one thing is certain -  the brighter the better! So call it apple, merlot, ruby, scarlet or tomato but just be sure to embrace this color whether you paint your nails red or throw on a bright red coat.

The best part of red fashions, are that they don't put you in the red. So, be bold and go paint the town red!

From Around the Shop: Valentine's Day

February 9, 2011 4:14:38 PM EST

Valentine's Day is almost upon us. Valentine Day is a day for the exchange of tokens of affection. When we think of Valentine's Day, we often think of red roses, candy in heart- shaped boxes, mushy valentines, and winged cherubs flying about shooting starry-eyed lovers with arrows. If you live in Portland, ME, you are familiar with the Valentine's Day Phantom, who leaves hearts taped all over the Old Port in the dark of night.

I am still getting to know the ladies & gentleman that I work with, so I decided to ask around and see what everyone was doing for Valentine's Day.  I must say that some made me laugh and one made me blush and turn red (which doesn't happen often). Here are my favorites:

- Hand written poem & Black Dinah Chocolates
- Preparing a Jamaican dinner & a movie
- Going out to dinner
- Baking a cake that will include Oreo cookies in the topping

I will be spending Valentine's Day with my son and husband & yellow lab (a.k.a. my boys). We get some good cuts of steak and spend some quality time together. I will also enjoy my drive to work so I can see where the Valentine's Day Phantom leaves his trail of red hearts. Happy Valentine's Day!
