Fashion Friday: Seeing RED

July 22, 2011 1:42:23 PM EDT

In the heat of summer, it's hard to believe that fall is just around the corner (especially these last few days). Following the lead from summer colors, fall is all about bright vibrate colors. The hues are definitely becoming more and more intense with deep saturation. One color in particular that is leading the color trend is RED.

This classic color is gracing the runways of many designers this season. Outerwear, dresses, shoes, handbags, sweater and coats are all coming up red. There is even a lot of head-to-toe red. All red hues are the driving this trend and one thing is certain -  the brighter the better! So call it apple, merlot, ruby, scarlet or tomato but just be sure to embrace this color whether you paint your nails red or throw on a bright red coat.

The best part of red fashions, are that they don't put you in the red. So, be bold and go paint the town red!

IKAT in the Indonesian language means "to tie" or "to bind."  IKAT is the Indonesian dyeing technique used to pattern textiles with a resist dyeing process, similar to tie-dye, on either the warp or weft fibers.  This age-old printing process has been hitting the the home deco market for sometime now with beautiful curtains, pillows and accent chairs. IKAT

Naturally the fashion designers have started to incorporate these striking fabrics into there collections with statement skirts, dresses, swimwear and a slew of accessories.  The IKAT technique typically is a bright, colorful, blurred and slightly abstract patterns which is ideal in creating that laid-back summer feel for both your home and/or wardrobe.

If you are pattern shy, the easiest way to embrace this trend is to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Fashion Friday: Get SHORTY!

July 8, 2011 4:16:04 PM EDT

Shorts have never been my cup-of-tea, for may reasons, but mostly I have never found them to be flattering on women. This season I have decided to give shorts a second chance and for the first time in my life, I simply can't get enough of them.

There are so many options in style right now, it should not be difficult to find the perfect pair for just about anyone. Most immediately, turn to the old traditional denim shorts and surprisingly these shorts are the most difficult to wear for the majority of us.

I would highly recommend looking into some of the other chic shorts popping up by the handfuls in floral, lace, scalloped edged, bright colored, suede and, even leather! Most importantly, don't limit yourself to only day shorts. Shorts with so many pretty details look great for warm evening dinners or nights out on the town.

Fashion Friday: American Style

June 30, 2011 5:00:00 AM EDT

Most would not know this about me, but the 4th of July is my all-time favorite time of year. Just the thought of it brings back vivid childhood memories of watching fireworks light up the Maine summer night sky. And, this time of year, in particular, has always been the vision of All-American Style to me.

American Style is not just the obvious stars, stripes, red, white and blue. It’s history, knowledge and an understanding of the resilient spirit of America. Working class folks, farmers, cowboys and pioneer women, inspire this style. Traditional navy blue blazers, lots of denim, cotton prairie style, white eyelet & floral fabrics, basic tee, button downs shirts, chunky hand-knits, plaids, picnic plaids and much more. Denim is the staple and it is an iconic Americana fabric. Originally developed in the States, jeans have been around for longer then most care to remember. They echo a look that is uncomplicated, practical, and versatile. It is one of the most universally loved fabrics around the world.

Whatever your plans are for July 4th be sure to make your own fireworks by celebrating where you live and take some fashion inspiration from your country as well!
